Introduction

Our Volunteer Centre exists to promote volunteering in all its various aspects. Volunteers are recruited and matched with vacancies in local organisations. Good practice in using volunteers or being a volunteer is promoted. Training sessions are held to encourage good practice in the recruitment, development and retention of volunteers.

Volunteer Rights and Responsibilities

Rights

  • Right of being offered the opportunity to be a volunteer
  • Right to be inspected, listened to and valued
  • Right to be interviewed and given an induction when they start
  • Right to training and supervision
  • Right to be welcomed by paid staff and complement their work
  • Right to a clear understanding of their tasks
  • Right to receive the same insurance cover as employees

Responsibilities

  • To be reliable and committed
  • To work within the aims and objectives of the organisation
  • To respect staff, other volunteers and clients
  • To abide by the confidentiality policy of the organisation
  • To be honest if there are any problems
  • To keep supervisor advised of any change in circumstances
