BME Community Services - Project Officer

BME Community Services is seeking to employ a Project Officer for their Out of Asia Heritage Project on an 18.5h/w 18 months contract. The post holder will be based in Worthing with some travel. The job’s purpose is to coordinate the project day by day and ensure that the targets set are met. The project aims to describe the cultural experiences of people from the Indian sub-continent who have migrated to the Worthing area. Interviews will be conducted with people from Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Sri-Lanka who have migrated to the Worthing area over the past 70 years. Key cultural subjects will be home life, bringing up children, education, working life, politics, religion, festivals and leisure activities. The project’s key outcome is to produce an educational DVD of these interviews to be used in schools and libraries. Mental Health Carers Support Worker

An opportunity has arisen for a specialist Support Worker for family carers who are looking after someone of working age with mental health issues. To provide practical and emotional support to individual carers including information on carer’s rights, access to carers assessments, advocacy support and the facilitation of carer’s support groups. It will be necessary to develop close working relationships with the local Mental Health Teams particularly in the Mid Sussex area. An understanding of carers’ issues and related mental health legislation is essential. Also a proven ability to work under own initiative and as part of a team covering the northern area of West Sussex. The position requires the use of own car.
